The following is an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence:
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government
We put 'consent of the governed' in bold because it is part of the overall theme of this thread. When we began Afro-Pick.com it was our reasoning that ultimately the greatest act of self-empowerment black people could perform was the formation of their own government that was run for and by black people. You can see that in our OVERVIEW.
As the Declaration of Independence underscores, any government that is NOT a form of tyranny would by necessity be run by the CONSENT of those being governed. By our own free will do we join together and choose to be a nation. It is really that simple. Any other form of government eventually depends on the use of force and coercion in order to compel the obedience of its citizenry.
We decided to re-emphasize our stance in the aftershock of #TerenceCrutcher.
We want to be clear at this point that we are not advocating abolishment or alteration as those come with issues we do not believe black people are ready for in America. However we do believe we are perfectly capable of having our own parallel form or forms of government that we control. Rather than continually appealing for justice from the powers that be, we should transform ourselves into a power.
The first step as we alluded to on the 'Black Solutions Board' is for black communities across America where feasible to incorporate as towns. This makes it easier to leverage the power of the citizenry in a focused manner without interference from the more dominant groups within the overall population.
The second step is to truly pledge allegiance to your own people and form a government simply by agreeing to do so. The cool thing about the 21st century is we have all this great communications technology which is well suited to maintaining cohesive communications on both a local and national scale. An online community can be converted into a real-world nation simply by decision.
Once again - just governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed!
So how does all this relate to what has happened with the murder of Terence Crutcher?
You will never receive justice through appeals to an unjust system. Your best bet is to create your own system. As long as you appeal to the current system, you are consenting to the outcome. But we could be wrong, maybe try another march?
